§ 40-564. Water watch declaration and criteria.

  • (a)

    The director of public works may impose a water watch under the criteria set forth in this section. Such a water watch shall continue until it is determined by the director of public works that it is no longer necessary in order to avoid undue stress upon the resources and reserve capacity of the utility.

    (b)

    Under a water watch the utility is urging all customers to implement voluntary lawn watering restrictions. Voluntary lawn watering restrictions may apply to all customers or customers on alternate sides of the street. They may be for all day or for specified times each day.

    (c)

    Notice of a water watch shall be given to the mayor, common council and major news media that serve the city.

    (d)

    A water watch shall be declared when necessary to maintain pumpage below a preset daily total amount, or to maintain demand on the system below a preset level, or to comply with an electrical utility request for voluntary cutback in peak load electrical usage.
